The KMRt On Line overview

In 2006 as part of an initiative lead by the KMRt members in 2006 the group looked in some detail at the notion of 'Social Software/media' in organisations.

It included exploring Blogs, Wikis, Bulliten Boards and other types of on line environments where individuals or teams in organisations could 'socially construct' collaborative 'spaces' to share information.

As a result of this exploration the community decided that they wanted their own on line collaborative space.  The reasons for this were;

  • to enable them to learn about social software first hand and to then understand its relevance within the organisation that they worked for.
  • to give the community the opportunity to collaborate more effectively across the geographic and organisational boundaries

In the interests of engagement we have kept this environment very simple, we have 2 layers for the group to collaborate in.

  • KMRt Bulliten Board - this creates the opportunity for the group to post questions to each other with private messages or to the whole community.  New 'threads' or topics can easily be created and people can request an answer or just include comments as they see fit.  This forum is moderated by the KMRt facilitator.
  • The KMRt 'WIKI' (from the Hawain word for fast) - here the community has all its content stored.  Notes from meetings, presentations, articles of interest and links to relevant web sites or pod casts are all in the one space.  Common Interest Workgroup (CIWG) minutes and outcomes including case studies and tools are uploaded for the membership  to share.
  • An example of some of the content in the Wiki that we are all contributing to and building is;
  • Workforce Planning Matrix
  • Organisation Memory and Technical Knowledge Retention Matrix
  • KM Enablers, Strategies, Learnings & Methodologies Matrix
